A stuffed animals collection is something that every child loves to put together. They take the plush toys and hug them, and tell secrets to them, as well as involve them in the day-to-day play that children are wont to do. All children love the cuddly critters that adorn their room as the collection begins to grow.
You may wish to collect a theme, such as an African theme filled with stuffed animals that might be found in the jungles of Africa, or perhaps a zoo theme that might involve caged plush toys, and I’ve even met one collector who collected nothing but plush toys that represented any animal that might live under the sea, for example.
Some people hold down the size of the stuffed animals collection by keeping the animals down to HO scale, for instance, which will negate the “actual” sized plush toys. Part of the reasoning why children love stuffed animals is that they are easy to take care of, and if one forgets to “feed” a stuffed animal the child will not be traumatized by the plush toy passing away nor getting sickly!
I happen to know of many adults who still have a stuffed toy collection as they are so emotionally attached to them that they cannot part with them. For example one adult I know has plush toys from every city and country she’s ever visited. The fact that when she grew up her Dad was an ambassador for the United States has a lot to do with it, thus she went just about everywhere with her Dad. She is not only nostalgic about her collection but it also has been the source of a lot of family tradition for her, as well as now being able to pass down her personal collection to her own children.
Her collection has not only been displayed with tremendous pride, but she can use each of her stuffed animals to dole out a story of where the animal came from, what she was seeing at the time, who was with her, who bought it for her, and how that particular item fit into her tremendous collection. Just writing about it, brings on a smile! In fact her house is basically decorated with these memory holders!
Psychically the holding of a stuffed toy is highly regarded, and that’s why firemen and policemen are apt to carry stuffed toys in their trunks in order to placate a child who has been traumatically injured by either a fire or an accident. This is also the reason why hospitals give them out to children who have had to be hospitalized. It not only calms a frightened child but also the stuffed toy becomes something to hold onto as a source of a calming end result.
Police departments all over the US work for hours on things like “Operation Bear Hug,” a specific campaign begun by officers, who collect and hand out new stuffed animals to hospitalized children. Why? Because stuffed animals are miraculous for those kids!
